Howard Universal
A special edition publication commemorating the Howard University lineage.
Published through Grace Wales Bonner’s research project Between Critique and Hope, this publicationcelebrates Howard’s legacy, drawing together past and present through archival imagery, alumni reflectionsand student submissions.Howard Universal gathers visions and voices of ‘The Mecca’ from across generations, featuring reprints fromthe university’s yearbooks spanning 1947 to 2011 along with new images documented on the Washington D.C. campus by photographer D’Andre Williams. Alumni submissions include a testimony from celebratedartist Laraaji, image submissions from cinematographer Bradford Young and stylist Marcus Paul, alongsideselect reprints from the late Toni Morrison - an integral figure in Howard University’s intellectual history.













The publication is designed by Pablo Jomaron, founder of Paris-based independent publishing house RedLebanese. Red Lebanese is an independent publishing house and a music label founded in 2012. Authors,editors and independent distributors based in Paris, Red Lebanese promote artists’ work by production anddistribution of limited series publications.
